Why is the Obama Administration selling guns to Mexican drug dealers?

US Government Gun-running To Narco Gangs In Mexico

Obama's Mexicogate?

By Laura Carlsen

April 21, 2011 "FPIF" -- A secret operation to run guns across the border to Mexican drug cartels — overseen by U.S. government agents — threatens to become a major scandal for the Obama administration.

The operation, called “Fast and Furious,” was run out of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) office in Phoenix, Arizona. ATF sanctioned the purchase of weapons in U.S. gun shops and tracked the smuggling route to the Mexican border. Reportedly, more than 2,500 firearms were sold to straw buyers who then handed off the weapons to gunrunners under the nose of ATF.

But once across the border, the agency seemed to lose track of the weapons. Hundreds of AK-47s and Barrett .50 caliber rifles — favorites of warring drug cartels —made it easily into the hands of some of Mexico’s most ruthless crime organizations.

    There is no "sting operation."

    The ENTIRE operation is:

    1) Have under-cover agents steer gangs to particular firearms dealers.

    2) Alert those dealers that as part of a BATFE operation, they should let the suspicious sales go through.

That's all. Did you think there was a 3rd step, like following the illicit buyers and arresting them? There isn't. That's why BATFE Field-Agents rolled-over on the administration when THEY realized there was no "other agency" handling matters after step 2.

Raise your hand if you think it's a coincidence this "operation" was done right before Obama announced we need stronger gun-sales controls, citing a spike in border violence (and not mentioning guns HE SUPPLIED were being used to kill BATFE and Border Patrol men.)

You with your hand up. You're an idiot.

It was a half baked idea that backfired in a huge way. Arrogance was displayed by the leaders as many ATF agencies expressed their lack of confidence in this scheme. They were proven right and now some heads should roll that pushed this fiasco.

The little twit who wrote that got a few things wrong: first, it was not "the Obama administration" selling guns. It was a sting set up by law enforcement that went wrong - which happens now and then under every administration. The screw-ups were mid-level management. Secondly, it was and is improper to blame Obama - no one man can micromanage everything that happens on his watch when the topic is the government of an entire nation. It would be proper only if he fails to follow up and appoint more qualified people to run things at ATF...

Amazing how you edited the story to create your lies. Nothing in the article ties this to Obama.

One agent is making a claim about a sting operation and you suddenly claim that Obama is selling guns to drug dealers. They let the guns go so they can catch a whole drug cartel. So the guy coming forward with the alleged story is trashing that effort and helping the druggies. That makes him believable.

Perhaps you are confused with Reagan giving arms and money to our enemy in the Iran Contra case.

Mexico has been getting crazy with the whole drug war thing. Obama is just trying to keep the drugs flowing. Which is probably the only worthwhile thing he's done.

So he can blame our "lax" gun laws for crime and work to restrict firearm ownership.
