Did you know only 2% of High School Seniors know what Brown v. Board of Education was about?

>> Diane Ravitch, an education historian who was invited by the national assessment’s governing board to review the results, said she was particularly disturbed by the fact that only 2 percent of 12th graders correctly answered a question concerning Brown v. Board of Education, which she called “very likely the most important decision” of the United States Supreme Court in the past seven decades. <<

Even if 2% WAS an accurate assessment of the knowledge of Brown v. Board (which I don't believe it is), the U.S. as a nation has only themselves to blame. I was lucky enough to have an exceptional history teacher, and I can honestly say that my AP U.S. History course was one of the best I've ever taken. But our country doesn't emphasize history. If we want our kids to be more intelligent in the area of history, then we need to start emphasizing its importance more. This should surprise no one.

The most important decision of the U.S. Supreme Court? That's like saying that the most important decision made by the Catholic church in the 15th century was the Spanish Inquisition or the most important decision made by the germans in the in the 1930s was to round up the Jews. Only difference, fewer heretics and fewer Jews have been murdered at the hands of the church or the Nazis than have been murdered by this Supreme Court decision.

Still, I'm sorry Ms. Ravitch's murderous little liberal religion isn't being adapted as widely as she'd like.

Did you know that most liberals think the south was run by Republicans until the Civil Rights Act?

Rather than spouting off about a Supreme Court ruling that no longer affects our country, learn the racist history of democrats.

Brown v. Board was necessary because of the fact that democrats fought to keep black people subservient to whites for 180 years in our country.

The founding fathers wrote into the constitution the abolition of slavery, and souther states forced the clause to be removed. States then passed their own laws allowing slavery. The Civil War actually began in the 1780s. It just wasn't settled until 1965, with the Civil Rights movement.

I dont know why that is such a big surprise, do we not teach our children to look past color? Sure most children know about slavery and about segregation at some point, but are they really taught about it? no, they are taught that everyone IS equal and to look past color.

Plus our high schoolers these day are worried about being shot, getting pregnant, drinking doing drugs and god only knows what else.

Yes, sad. Same for Roe v. Wade, Dred Scott, The Great Writ, and, in most high schools, the Unit Circle.

We're falling behind as a country because of it. But you can't put more money in schools, that's "Socialism" and there's no cash-flow, rate-of-return, present-value-of-money.

    Shameful.
