Why don't Caribbean blacks like being called African Americans?

Also, why don't Caribbean and American blacks hang out together or live together in the same neighborhoods much? I've noticed that some do hang out together, but too many do not, why is that? Caribbean blacks and African Americans tend to live very different lifestyles, why is that?

Caribbean blacks are not African American, that's why. No one wants someone to label someone they are not. So what Caribbean blacks and African Americans hang out together? Or live in the same neighborhoods? I don't have the answer why they live different lifestyles. Are they supposed to live the same lifestyles because they are black?

Look, most people call all black people African Americans. Not all black people are African Americans! No wonder some people don't like being called African Americans.

The majority of white people are going to call Haitians, Jamaicans, West Indies, Barbadians, etc African Americans just based on their skins without trying to figure out where they came from and what their ethnicities are. Then some white people such as yourself here have the nerve to ask questions like this why they get upset, because not all black people are African Americans.

    ************

African Americans (also referred to as Black Americans or Afro-Americans, and formerly as American Negroes) are citizens or residents of the United States who have origins in any of the black populations of Africa.

Not every single black person on this earth have originated from Africa!

The term African American implies that you are from Africa and are an American citizen. If you aren't from Africa, instead are from the Caribbean, why would you WANT to be pushed into the same group as blacks from Africa?

And just because they have the same skin tone doesn't mean they have any obligations to hang out with each other or live near each other.. And again, they are from two entirely different places, and therefore have different lifestyles, obviously.

For example, Americans and British people look the same, but our lives and countries are pretty different.

    Hope this answered your question!

Because they are not Americans. African Americans and Caribbean blacks do not share the same culture and history, so other than continent of origin, they have nothing in common.
