The problem here is how the question is asked.

Do you believe in a god or deity?

This is a closed question, that on the face of it only requires a yes or no answer, but of course you will get many people say that they are not sure, so when you tabulate any results do you add the not sure pile to the yes pile or the no pile, or do you create a third pile.

There is the option of asking what religion are you, giving a list of common ones and then giving the options of other religion or none, then class all of those that say no religion as atheists, this may give you a more accurate result.

You of course then will still have errors, many people will tick a box because that is the religion into which they were born, this would be common in the UK where people in the main automatically tick catholic or protestant, but these people may be totally ambivalent to that belief.

So it is very difficult to get an accurate result, a few quick searches on the internet however is very revealing.

Japan and Vietnam both seem to have very high numbers of agnostic/atheist people in both cases this seems to exceed 70%, but, this does not mean they do not have a 'spiritual' belief, they simply do not have gods or deities within their 'beliefs' and so going back to the way the question is being asked a question such a 'do you believe in a god or deity' will create a skewed result.

Buddhists do not have a god, so that would also account for low numbers of 'believers' in far eastern countries, China included.

China and Russia both score low on the belief front, this may be due communism 'discouraging' belief, but neither score that high in any of the information that is available.

Discounting the way the question may have been asked Sweden is certainly the most Atheistic country in on Earth.

China (as most are still members of the Communist party, and therefore, at least officially, atheists. Buddhists and Taoists are mostly atheistic as well).

Japan (again most Buddhists are atheistic, and Shinto, while having Kamis, doesn't really have "gods" the way we think of them.)

With some Western Nations, I don't know the ones that have the stats. But lots of folks in, say, Canada or Denmark might list themselves as non-religious, without bothering to distinguish between not being religious and being atheistic.

Mostly countries in Scandinavia and eastern Asia.

Probably most. Many people will claim to be adherents of a religion (Islam, past Roman Catholicism) to avoid threats of death or persecution. That doesn't necessarily mean they are true followers or that they actually believe it.

Finland, the Netherlands, Japan and a few others claim large amounts of non-religious people. You can look it up on google.

Scandinavian countries, Japan, and other places like that.
