Go to the Securities and Exchange Commission, or their website.
All organizations, whether non-profit or for business, will have to be registered. The list of requirements can be obtained from their information desk, too.

It is easier to find all of that now, just go to the sec website.
Back in the day, you have to physically go there. But that is also something you could do yourself.
You could also meet lots of people in there who would be willing to help you out, for a fee of course.
