"Sergeant Brown died during a Union retreat: when the enlistment of Colonel Webster’s Twelfth Massachusetts Regiment expired in July 1864, only 85 of more than a thousand men were left to return home to New England." - That was one bloody war!
Reading stories like this makes you realize just how young our country is though. Just a handful of generations from our founding until now.
Steyn, as Sean would say, is a great American and one of my favorite writers/commentators. And he's funny as hell...
