Is putting a Confederate flag on your car disrespectful?

My friend's boyfriend has a confederate flag that he put on his car. He's not meaning to be racist, it's just "southern pride" thing. Her mom got really angry at her when she saw it. If you saw a confederate flag on someone's car, what would you think of them?

I'd think that the driver supported succession and still wanted it today. I'd also think that he was racist, because those points are what the flag stood for . . .

    Confederate does not equal southern.

I would think that they are a redneck racist. "Southern Pride" and the Confederate flag are about keeping Black people down.

The uneducated will surely take it the wrong way, but unfortunately they are the majority and so the flag should be removed to avoid an incident.

  • When I lived in SC, I rarely saw it used as racism, but usually as a symbol of the south in general.

when people don't assume what it stands for it can mean anything. it stands for many things: racism mostly comes to mind but also rebellion, freedom, and just southern pride as well. if its not used as a tool for racism then its fine
