What does an OS do during shore rotation?

I know that during his first sea rotation, he works on the ship plotting courses, handeling the IFF system and tracking targets. But What do they do during their shore rotation?

I want to know because my son just signed up for this and I want to know about this as much as possible

Update:

this is for navy

A lot of OS shore-duty billets are on staffs, doing a lot of the same plotting/tracking functions as they did on ships. Alternatively, I seem to always run in to OS on shore duty at training commands (ATG, EWTG, Boot Camp, A-School, etc).

They work in the command center working the radio and monitoring ships.
