Me and my friends were just discussing this the other day. We are freshmen on our JV squad and had spent our entire eighth grade year going to classes, tumbling, conditioning, and whatever else. To be a cheerleader takes real talent and skill. If we would have spent the same amount of hours learning a sport such as Lax, Field Hockey, Volleyball, etc. we would have been star players. Do you think as a lax player, you could come in and just learn a roundoff backhandspring with no previous experience? Or a triple toe touch jump without making a single sound when you land? Or even for that matter, master the perfect cheer voice? No, so cheer takes more raw talent then other sports, plus loads more training and determination.
