Should Confederate Georgia flag be brought back?

The Sons of Confederate Veterans have got the Georgia lawmakers to put the issue to vote in the assembly again to bring the GA flag from 1956-2003 back which includes the Confederate flag in it. Whats your opinion?

Absolutely! It is about time that people put to rest the fanatical opposition to the Southern battle flag.

Only if they want people to remember their history of segregation and their opposition the the civil right movement. That is why they adopted the flag in 1956 two years after the court decision that baned segregated schools. If they are proud of their past, I would say go for it, and let everyone know where they stand.

They could set up a tourist center with separate drinking fountains and bathrooms for white and back tourists and lunch counter that only served whites. with a statue of Lester Maddox in the court yard

definately, YES We cannot escape out heritage. That flag was not the official flag of the Confederacy. It was the soldiers flag. The fact that it has been used by others(KKK etc) does not change its original meaning. Mnay families, mine included, risked and lost everything for that flag. It took until the 3rd post was generation for the South to recover from that war. And now some people want to take even that away from us.

Hey, if Georgia wants to remind everyone that they turned traitor and had Sherman march across their state burning, looting, and raping every step of the way, feel free.

The Confederacy was a colossal failure. Politically, militarily, economically.. complete, utter failure on every level. Why do people want to celebrate that? "WooHoo! We tried to form our own nation so we could keep slaves, but got our butts whipped so completely that not one nation recognized our nation! Hooray for Robert E. Lee, who managed to lose, repeatedly, to some of the worst generals in history!"

You want to celebrate being losers? Go right ahead. We'll go back laughing at you.
