Wow. Why is it that when an honest question having even remotely to do with the Catholic Church is asked, the most hateful bigots come out of the woodwork to spew their bile? I would go so far as to posit that their un-Christlike attitude towards other Christians is a prime example of "corruption in the church".

It means that someone was following the teachings of men and not Jesus.

Like the Scribes and the Pharisees the church leaders abused their power and wealth.

Jesus exposed them for what they were.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you give the tenth of the mint and the dill and the cumin, but you have disregarded the weightier matters of the Law, namely, justice and mercy and faithfulness. (Matthew 23:23)

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you resemble whitewashed graves, which outwardly indeed appear beautiful but inside are full of dead men’s bones and of every sort of uncleanness.  In that way you also, outwardly indeed, appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. (Matthew 23:27-28)

After these things I saw another angel descending from heaven, with great authority; and the earth was lighted up from his glory.  And he cried out with a strong voice, saying: “She has fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen, and she has become a dwelling place of demons and a lurking place of every unclean exhalation and a lurking place of every unclean and hated bird!  For because of the wine of the anger of her fornication all the nations have fallen [victim], and the kings of the earth committed fornication with her, and the traveling merchants of the earth became rich due to the power of her shameless luxury.”

And I heard another voice out of heaven say: “Get out of her, my people, if you do not want to share with her in her sins, and if you do not want to receive part of her plagues.  For her sins have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind.

    (Revelation 18:1-5)

The church, in fact all denominations of christianity, have corrupted the word so badly that if Jesus returned, he would not recognise it
