The xx由Romy Madley Croft、Oliver Sim、Jamie Smith以及Baria Qureshi四個年輕人組成，四人聲稱音樂影響來自CocoRosie、The Cure、Pixies、Aaliyah以及Mariah Carey，但細聽他們的音樂，才發現完全是兩回事，對於四位年紀不到二十歲的年輕人來說，專輯的成熟度實在令人難以想像。The xx於2009年在Young Turks廠牌下發行了首張專輯《xx》，並開始跟著The Big Pink、Micachu等樂團一同巡演。

《xx》在低調感傷的旋律裡帶領聽者穿梭在夢境與現實之間，肥厚帶有空間感的貝斯聲線、迷濛緩飆的吉他、充滿時尚感的鼓點與鍵琴音，搭配男女主唱冷淡慵懶的嗓音，讓人彷彿夢遊在城市裡不願醒來。

夢遊起點從《xx》專輯裡的開場曲〈Intro〉開始，穿過城市的霓虹，橫跨每棟大樓的屋頂，結束在〈Stars〉裡。正如團名與專輯封面一般，The xx的曲風難以歸類，以簡單的結構建構出深厚的音樂層次，既復古又現代，就像神秘難解的夢境一樣讓人耽溺。
