Why does John Landis?
Have a director trademark of breaking the fourth wall in many of his films. I`d like to ask him himself, but as we all well know, the stars are unreachable for us minions :)

When used sparingly, breaking the fourth wall gives me a sense of being in on the joke. Like the director is looking right at me and winking, giving a little nudge-nudge about something that he knows I'm going to think is funny.
Too much is cheesy, but every once in a while makes me feel included.
