Airplane mode swithces off your device's cell phone and wifi capabilities. You can still use it to play games or type memos or anything else that doesn't require cell phone service. Anything that requires service or internet can't be used when in airplane mode (like calls and texting).

Blackberry's don't have a specific app called airplane mode. You need to go into your "desktop" and look for the icon that looks like a wireless signal icon. Click on it, and from there you can turn off all wireless signals or individually turn off your Mobile Network, Wifi or Bluetooth. When on an airplane that does not offer wifi, all of the wireless signals should should be disabled and the phone turned off completely during takeoffs and landings.Source(s): Own a Blackberry
