Yup - you have a computer infected with malware! Any time your browser re-directs to a different web site, you know you are infected. Spyware is easy to get, but hard to remove. Some of it even disables the anti-virus, or firewall, or the ability to get to download sites or to download more protection. If that is the case, the only way to add protection before a scan is to use another computer and burn the program itself to a CD or DVD. ( the '.exe' file - SAVE it)

Turn off your computer and don't use it until you have done scans several times in Safe Mode (Hit F8 several times as the computer screen first lights up, then use the arrow keys and Enter to get to Safe Mode) Re-boot into Safe Mode for each scan, with the CD/DVD in the drive so you can execute the anti-malware programs from there. A flash or thumb drive could also get infected, but they are convenient.

Once the computer is clean, remove all System Restore points (Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > delete ...small, in left panel) before re-booting. This prevents any malware from re-installing itself. Of course, once you re-boot in Normal Mode, re-set a new System Restore point right away.

Only install or run anti-malware from trusted sites, since many on web searches are spyware themselves. (see reputable FREE sources below) Malwarebytes Anti-Malware has an excellent reputation, as does the on-line scanner Housecall. You can scan with several different anti-malware programs, and should do so, since they catch different things, but only one should run constantly.

    Good trusted download sites:

This is known as a browser hijacker. By all mean, run Ad-aware and/or Spybot. I firmly believe that when this happens to you, contact the sites (that you have been redirected to) and let them know that as long as they are paying someone to inconvenience you this way, you will never do business with them.
