Is the corruption in large cities within the USA a recent event?

"When we get piled upon one another in large cities, as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe."

Tom Jefferson.

Do you think Tom was trying to tell Americans of the times something to avoid here??? Personally, I have never heard such a STRONG statement in so few words pertaining to individualism over communalism(groupyism). What you say on this quote???

Either corruption in big cities is less than what it was 100 yrs. ago, or the politicians are better at concealing it.

As for T. J. don't forget he was a socialist and wrote the constitution to allow for socialism if the people wanted it.

Maybe stacking people on top of people causes social friction regardless of the economic system a country has.

Dang, He was right on the money. Look how common corruption is in New York and Chicago. Corruption has been a way of life in both since the 1800's.
