In math, why do we always borrow 10 when regrouping?

    we always borrow 10 because if you borrowed 1 from 60 that would leave us with 59 which HAS to be presented with it's two digits whereas, if you did 60-10 you will get 50 which can be shown (when used with subtraction) as 5 instead.
