關於 dress 的用法

課文裡有一句 :

Bridesmaids tried to fool these unwanted visitors by dressing the same as the bride.

之前好像不常看到dress用動名詞的形態出現在文章裡面,

但在這裡是不是因為by是介係詞的關係才成立?

或者 其實這種情形比較少人用dress?

另外用wearing也可以嗎?

    但在這裡是不是因為by是介係詞的關係才成立? Yes, dressing (the same as the bride) is a gerund(動名詞), you are correct.

    或者 其實這種情形比較少人用dress?

    Dress and wear are different verbs.

    dress is the action of putting on clothes (smong other meanings).

    wear is the action of having clothes on your body (not putting on or taking off).

    So you put on a shirt-----> wear a shirt -----> take off a shirt

    In other words you dress -----> you wear -------> you undress

    Dress is much more common in British English than American English.

    British people use "dressing rooms" while americans use "changing rooms".
