I would start with a general description of the two sides, S. Viet Nam supported by the world power USA, and N. Viet Nam supported by the large buy unsophisticated communist China. Talking about their brief history in WWII and what happened after sets the stage on the capabilities of the two sides.
Basically, N. Viet Nam had an Army, but no Air Force or Navy. The Army mostly relied on small weapons and tactics, such as terror, ambush, sneak attacks, caves and tunnels, movements at night. The USA had the modern weapons of B-52s, AF and Navy jets, rockets, bombs, tanks and artillery.
Now go into each weapon and how they were effective or ineffective.
You can't do a paper on Viet Nam without mentioning the crude weapons the Viet Cong used, like booby traps, and punji sticks (dung covered bamboo spikes to try to infect U.S. soldiers). And since the jungle provided cover for these sneaky little Cong, you have to mention Agent Orange that was used to defoliate the trees to improve visibility.
Then you need a conclusion. Even with all the firepower and technology of the US, the relentless vermin Cong wore down the American people's resolve, and we pulled out.
