What could cause itching all over the body?

I started getting this itch a few days ago. First on my legs then arms, back, sides and stomach. Other places like feet, hands, and neck also itch occasionally. So basically everywhere. It itches like mad and I can't sleep at night. I have started getting small red bumps in the places that I am scratching. I am not sure if the bumps are a rash, bug bites or just from scratching so much. I went to the doctor and they game me some steroid pills, but they don't seem to be doing anything. I looked for bugs but can't find any. Are there bugs that could cause this that are too small to see?

Hi Mike...I know what your going thru...when I was 5 a few years ago...I got a staph infection.. And got itchy red bumps all over my skin:( GO TO THE DOCTOR and get antibiotics or go to a dermatologist because if it is a staph infection it could possibly get worse and kill you, staph is a flesh eating disease that is terrible:( IF your lucky you may just have an itch or psorasis:) Thanks

Most likely an allergy cause your symptoms sound like what I had- I literally couldn't sleep and then I started getting these tiny red bumps. It's probably from a detergent or soap your using- I changed soap because before I was using this sweet pea body wash and then I went back to the bar and now I don't itch as much. Hope this helps if not you could always try itching cream (my mom gave me this rash crap that BURNED my skin and sadly it didn't help lol) ^___^ GOOD LUCK AND FEEL BETTER!

I would take some Benadryl for the itching. Hard to say what it is from. Possibly an allergy to something, or like another poster said, perhaps a change in detergent. Have you put some hydrocortisone cream (like Cortaid) on the itchy parts? It is an over the counter cream found in the first aid section of the store.

yes, but it could be measles, too. If it was a bug bite the steroid pills would stop the itching.

do you have any 1% Hydrocortisone Creme? I use it to put on anything that itches. You can buy it over the counter.
