Roulette is simple in that it's one of the most predictable games in terms of your EXPECTATION.
"Expectation" in gambling simply means what you can expect to lose or win based on mathematics. This is FACT-BASED, undeniable math!
To be extra clear, the expectation is based on what you can expect to win or lose in the LONG RUN. In one trip to the casino, anyone can get lucky, and anyone can be particularly unlucky! (That last part is very important, and I'll come back to it later.)
In roulette, NO MATTER WHAT you do in terms of betting.....worth repeating: NO MATTER WHAT you do, your mathematical EXPECTATION is that for every $10 you wager, you will lose approximately 53 cents.
If you're thinking, "Well it's impossible to lose 53 cents on any roll!", then you still don't understand what I mean by long-term expectation. Make a $10 bet 10,000 times in a row, and you'll likely have lost approximately $5,300. Perhaps you'll have been very lucky and you'll only be down $3,000. Perhaps you've been very unlucky and you'll be down $6,800. The EXPECTATION, if you made ten thousand 10-dollar bets is that you'll be down around $5,300.
OK, so you want to bet $15 on just 1 number. That's a nice, sensible way to play. Let's figure out the math on this one based on you spending 3 hours at the roulette table.
I'm going to base my figures on 1 spin of the roulette wheel every 2 minutes. When there are lots of people, it's going to take even longer for a spin. If it's just you playing, it'll go faster than that.
At 1 spin per 2 minutes, that means 30 spins per hour. Let's pretend the game is moving rather quickly, and somehow the dealer manages to get in exactly 114 spins in the course of the 3-hour session. (The number 114 will make the mathematics work out nice and neat for this example so it's clear to see what the 'expectation' is.)
You will wager $15 on 114 separate spins. That's $1,710 worth of wagers. I know that you only have $500, but let's not worry about that for the mathematics just yet. We'll imagine that you win at least once before you run out of money, even though you very well might not.
You expect to hit your number exactly 1 time per 38 spins of the wheel. Why? Because there are 38 numbers on the wheel. Now 38 goes into 114 exactly 3 times. (That's why I wanted to pick that number.) So you should expect to WIN on your number THREE TIMES in your session of playing roulette.
THREE WINS is your EXPECTATION! If you are very lucky that day, you might hit your number 4 times, or 5 times, or perhaps 6, 7, or even 8 or more times if you're extremely lucky! If you are unlucky that day, you will only win on your number 2 times, or 1 time, or quite possibly zero times!
So now it's time for the math. Each time you WIN on your number, you win at the ODDS rate of 35 to 1. That's $525 profit on the 15-dollar wager! PLUS you get to keep that $15 on that spin. So in total, you get back $540. (The $525 profit, plus your $15 wager.)
What's 3 times $540? $1,620.
So you will have made $1,710 worth of wagers, and you will have WON $1,620.
Your EXPECTATION for this session of roulette is that you will walk away having lost $90.
Truly - it's as simple as that. The rest is a matter of luck. On some trips to the casino, you will get that all important FOURTH win! You will be a $450 winner if you win just 4 times in this session of play! On some trips to the casino, you won't even win 3 times. Sadly, if you don't win 3 times in this session, that means you are broke from your $500 bankroll!
I won't show you the math on this one, but trust me when I tell you there is actually approximately a 40% chance that you don't even win ONE TIME with your 500-dollar bankroll based on $15 per spin. I get that based on the fact that if you lose on your very first 34 spins in a row, you'll be broke.
To end a VERY long post...(sorry!)...roulette was designed to TAKE your money, and in the long run, that's exactly what it will do. There is no "money making style" that will ever beat roulette. People have been developing all sorts of strategies, and every one of them is as bad as the rest.
If you're going to play roulette, go to HAVE FUN! Roulette IS a very fun game to play! Socialize. Get a few drinks. Laugh it up, and HAVE FUN!
Try to BEAT roulette at your peril.
