Computer problems how do I fix this? nothing will open?

I was just browsing the net everything working fine though I've been having problems with my computer since I switched internet services. Anyway, everything began to shut down on me and since then I can't get anything to open up. Every time I try to open something the open with pops up and again nothing happens. I can't do system restore because like I said nothing will open. I have windows xp so I tried doing system restore through safe mode but it didn't work. I don't know whats going on but any help would be appreciated.

Think your computer might be infected with a trojan, spyware, or virus? I would suggest running your computer on safe mode with networking and download a free program called Spybot: Search and Destroy. There's a chance it will not let you install the program under safe mode, however. There are portable versions of a lot of anti-virus/spyware programs that will run without needing to be installed. Give this one a try:

Again, download it under safemode and run it to scan your computer. Hopefully it'll find what's causing your problems.

    And here is Spybot portable:

Both of these are free and neither need to be "installed." You can just download and run them, they are meant to be put onto a flash drive so they are run without putting any files in your Windows directory.

your computer might have a virus or spyware

if what you say is completely true and you can't open ANYTHING, it may be difficult to get rid of the virus or spyware
