    Feenix3 is right that the most commonly used verbs in English are the irregular ones, but they didn't become that way because they are used, they stayed that way. In Old English, many more verbs had irregular forms. Many tended to "regularize". That is, if you don't hear verb much, you would tend to make the past tense by adding -ed. So the most common verbs that people hear the most kept their irregular forms- words like eat, drink, come, go- there are many lists of these. Just search for English irregular verbs.

    Also, there are word lists that show the most commonly used words. The 100 most commonly used words in English are based on old German. Search for "vocabulary frequency list"
