Is it okay to 'cheat' in this way while dieting?

My mom eats disgusting, unhealthy food all the time. I eat healthy, lots of veggies, whole grains, fruits etc. So there's a lot of really bad food in the house. Say at dinner last night, she was having fries, I was having salad. She offered me some fries but I declined. Would it have been okay to have like, 3 fries?
Or how about 1 small piece of chocolate once in a while? Or a half a chocolate chip cookie?
How much do these things really set me back?
