If we eliminate the energy department - who is going to research new ways for atom bombs to go boom better?

Or is that research something we can offshore to china as well?

Actually, the DOE is the consolidated consortium of US physical science.

What folks don't seem to grasp is that the DOE serves multiple roles as we have used these facilities for many purposes and not just one.

I am not suggesting they don't need periodic review and revision, but to suggest we eliminate our NAtional Research programs and National Labs and advanced Physics and materials research along with our high power computing centers is completely ludicrous.

The DOE is a primary leader of science and technology in the US and is the envy of the world. Further, the DOE shares and transfers this technology with the private sector and helps create long-term, high technology jobs..

With the Dept. of Energy having an estimated budget of some $27 billion dollars I think we can get by with the "boom" we already have.

Necessary sciences have always been done by corporations.

The only other research in America is done by liberals at universities on gov grants. I don't care if we eliminate them. They're just parasites.

I would imagine we would stop funding the atom bomb as well.
