Keeps the financial affairs of businesses or an individual in order. Including but not limited to - filing taxes,keeping track of business transactions, receipts. If they work for the IRS(internal revenue service,they can audit you(company accounts, and financial statements of all kinds).Source(s): My mother-in-law is a CPA.

Accountants keep track of your financial affairs and make sure everything is in order. They deal with different aspects of your business mainly financial, legal,compliance to different laws etc.They also provide guidence how to reduce cost and introduce internal control in your business.
