Should't the Republcan base be a bit smart?

"During the time that Bush and Cheney, both of whom are former oil executives, have been in the White House, the oil and gas industry has spent $393.2 million on lobbying the federal government. This places the industry among the top nine in lobbying expenditures. The industry has also contributed a substantial $82.1 million to federal candidates, parties and political action committees, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. 80 percent of the industry's contributions have gone to Republicans."

Update:

If a country allows big companies to control the political process of that country, could it be said that it is democratic. Could that government be "for the people, by the people and to the people". You cannot have a country that says it is for the people and yet work for the companies which main concern is for profit.

Update 2:

@Super Spe: I can tell you did not read or went to the links. They are both dot org.

Update 3:

@The rea'ty: Look again you are not reading... That is why the Republican base is so ignorant.

Update 4:

@ Peace through blinding force: Again, Republicans do not like to read or do any research, do they? That is why your leaders lie to you.

Update 5:

@new California republic: Yes, it is. At least you read that. Did you happen to read the most important part of the question. You Rep. are really blind to the truth. Did they give you something to drink or are they brainwashing you through your monitor?

Update 6:

@chet elderson: But did you read it? Did you assimilate it? I know that the Dems get some donations too but look how much. And see how many companies are benefiting. And look who would benefit from the Health Care Bill. People, people are more important than profit. Can you see that or are you just looking at the cosmetic part of the question?

Yeah, and I suppose democrats don't take a red cent of money from the oil lobby. Geez, get a clue.

Oil is also one of the largest industries in the world. It has nothing to do with republicans. it has to do with the world needing oil.
