there is no comparison, windows is an outdated technology, windows 7 is a build on from windows NT 2000, that's why it's still suffering from the problems of insecurities that Microsoft have admitted they can't get rid of,

On the other hand Linux (The Operating System) itself uses cutting edge technology, Linux will run on every hardware architecture there is, from old 10 yr old computers with 512 meg of ram to the fastest HPC (High Powered Computers). Every Linux distribution uses Linux Operating System including Red Hat (Fedora). Red Hat use Cutting Edge Software combined with Linux Operating System.

Linux has more hardware Drivers than any other operating system within the Operating system itself, where as Windows does not have hardware drivers in the operating system you have to go to the manufactures website to download the hardware drivers if you have to install windows, That's why people are having problems with the new Intel i3 i5 i7 processors that have to reinstall windows 7 there is no hardware drivers in windows OS for these processors,

Overall a Linux based platform can certainly perform most of the tasks equally as well as a Windows based platform using the likes of Ubuntu and its derivative distros. However Linux does have its limitations with some applications and in particular gaming. For example alongside Linux Mint I retain a partition with XP on to run specific applications which cannot be adapted through a Windows compatability layer such as Dreamweaver CS5, Office 2007 etc.

    http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_xp_and_...

There is Wine which is a windows compatability layer

Installing and Using Wine on Fedora

    http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Fedora

A list of Windows apps. that work using Wine can be found on the Wine Application Database (AppDB)

    http://appdb.winehq.org/

Wine will not run all windows applications and it should be considered somewhat of a compromise rather than an absolute solution

If you intend to run a number of Windows apps. then a Dual Boot is the best way forward

Dual booting Windows 7 and Fedora 12 (or any other distro)

Should you consider a Full installation of Fedora see the tutorial below

You download the ISO. image of Fedora 14 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation

    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto

Fedora 14 can as most distros. be run direct from the LiveCD from Boot without touching your Hard Drive

As you can see from all the responses everyone is biased towards one or the other. It really depends on your needs and what you like. Fedora is the "cutting edge" distro based from RedHat while CentOS is the opposite. Windows 7 is the successor to Windows Vista. You should try and see for yourself. My work environment forces me to use various OS and they all have their own pros and cons.

    use ubuntu linux instead.

safe to use , no need for anti virus.

    application are all free.

supported lately by hardware manufactures so most hardware works with linux.

try it first. if not satisfied then go but windows.

linux ubuntu is free. you can download the OS then burn it to cd .

    http://www.ubuntu.com/

linux is safe to use specially when browsing internet, less likely to be attack by virus .spyware etc. even if you visit porn site..

or you can make a dual boot on your computer.

windows for application / work related that needs windows OS,.

    linux for other activities,

You should use windows 7 only because there's more support for it, Linux is more open source stuff.
