Is espionage against the geneva convention?

Are using spies against the geneva convention? such as for example, is the USA allowed to use spies to infiltrate terrorist cells in the middle east?

    I don't think so.

    The Geneva convention is supposed to ensure humane treatment of service personnel by enemy combatants.

    Spying is as old as mankind. Infiltrating terrorist cells seems like a good idea if it saves lives.

    Know I am pretty sure that being a spy is not against the Geneva Convention as that only applies to the military. It does mean should a Spy or foreign operative should get capture the Geneva Convention cannot be used to protect them as they are not a soldier so they can expect not the humane treatment that the Geneva Convention outlines for members of the armed forces
