How do I fix my ethernet connection?

When I plug in the ethernet cable, it spends over a minute identifying the network connection, and in the end it can't and it shows up as "unidentified network" with no internet access.

I've tried different computers on the same cable and port and they have worked. I've tried my computer on a different port and with different cables and no combination has worked. I've reset my network adapter, uninstalled and installed the most updated version of the adapter, and I've used the adapter installer to "repair" the adapter. I've also used any Windows troubleshooters that have anything to do with this connection but nothing has worked. It tells me that there is a problem with the IP configuration but not what the problem is or how i can manually fix it.

I'm using an Atheros AR8131 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20) on an Asus G60J laptop.

When I used the troubleshooter in Windows Network Diagnostics, this is the detailed information it gave me:

Details about network adapter diagnosis:

Is that the right version number for the driver? 1.0.0.4 is really old, so either

the output is truncated or that is an old driver.
