origins of Islamic call to prayer. is it a reminder to believers to go and pray or does it have some other spe?

    Muhammed thought it was better than using a ram's horn like the Jews or a wooden clapper like the local Christians, which he actually had made but never used. Besides, it was said that Bilal had such a lovely voice...

    Meaning of Azan

    Allahu Akbar

    God is Great

    (said four times)

    Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah

    I bear witness that there is no god except the One God.

    (said two times)

    Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasool Allah

    I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God.

    (said two times)

    Hayya 'ala-s-Salah

    Hurry to the prayer (Rise up for prayer)

    Hurry to success (Rise up for Salvation)

    As-salatu Khayrun Minan-nawm
