How do I stop cold (sales) calls? UK?

Question

I am not registered as ex-directory but I'm not sure if that stops the cold calls anyway.. Is there some sort of website I can register my details? For free preferably. I'm sick to death of these calls which are usually twice a day, more if I don't answer ( they call back )

Register free with the Telephone Preference Service - it takes a few months to work thru the system but it does cut calls, I did it 3 years ago, I still get the odd call but as soon as I say the number is registered with TPS they soon hang up.

Ever since I stopped my home phone line, I have not been bothered at all. And saving the monthly bill is an added bonus.
