What prophecies did the bible predict that turned out to be true in modern history?

A lot of Christians state the bible is true because it made accurate predictions. I just want to hear some examples of these.

It was stated in Jeremiah 50:35 that Babylon would, after its final destruction, remain essentially desolated. People ranging from Alexander the great to Saddam Hussein ( http://architecture.about.com/cs/countriescultures... ) Have planned/attempted to rebuild/restore it and have not had any lasting success. 'All that remains of the original ancient famed city of Babylon today is a mound, or tell, of broken mud-brick buildings, and debris.'

There is also the prophecies regarding Jesus....The fulfilling of many of these prophecies was completely beyond the control of Jesus. He could not, for instance, have arranged to be born of the tribe of Judah, or as a descendant of David. (Genesis 49:10; Isaiah 9:6, 7; 11:1, 10; Matthew 1:2-16) Nor could he have maneuvered the events that led to his being born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2; Luke 2:1-7) Nor would he have arranged to be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11:12; Matthew 26:15); that his enemies spit on him (Isaiah 50:6; Matthew 26:67); that he be reviled while hanging from the executional stake (Psalm 22:7, 8; Matthew 27:39-43); that he be pierced, but not a bone in his body be broken (Zechariah 12:10; Psalm 34:20; John 19:33-37); and that soldiers cast lots for his garments (Psalm 22:18; Matthew 27:35). These are merely a few of the many prophecies fulfilled in the man Jesus.

There are other prophecies regarding even such events as the establishment of the league of nations/united nations and the world wars.... but the explanation is way too long for here, any one who wants more information can e-mail me freely. And I don't mean fanciful tabloid style apocalyptic stuff either (I am not an easy person to convince) but it takes a little effort. You can't point to a Bible verse that said that Barrack Obama would be elected, that Hitler would have a small fuzzy moustache, or that there would be a huge earth quake in Haiti, for instance.

The bible isn't anyones opinion. It is God's stimulated phrase. He might have made definite that simplest what he needs contained in it are there and that whatever he didn't wish in was once omitted. These humans weren't giving an opinion, they have been giving prophecy and well information. At instances they have been giving caution. God works by way of humans, thus a couple of humans truthfully wrote the bible, however it was once now not their phrases, the phrases are God's.

(2 Timothy 3:1-5) . . .But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, 3 having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, 4 betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power; . . .

Mat 24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.

Mat 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.

Mat 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

Jesus tells his disciples that the temple in Jerusalem would be destroyed. Then the disciples ask him when shall these things be? Jesus explained the things that would happen, then:

Mat 24:32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:

Mat 24:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.

**"when ye (disciples) see all these things"

Mat 24:34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

**"I say unto you (disciples) this generation (theirs) shall not pass till all (everything) be fulfilled.

The temple and Jerusalem were destroyed in AD 70, just as Jesus said, in their generation.

The bible was the first to say the world was round.
