Convincing my mom to feed my dogs homemade again?

I was feeding my dogs a homemade diet a while ago. I used to feed them cooked not raw however, like boiled chicken, turkey, beef, ETC. (As I said before, my dogs won't eat raw, except for the occasional raw neck or so)

But a few weeks ago my mom told me no more, which annoyed me a bit. My dogs now get TOTW. Since we've used it, (At about a week) my dog has been losing weight, increasing tearstains, dandruff, all the bad stuff she didn't have when she was on homemade.

My mom seems to think everything but the food. She even said the new shampoo we got them is causing all

this. O.o

Anyway, I told her all this & she acted like she didn't care much. She did agree to feed homemade for about a week and see if it gets any better. But even so she won't keep them on it. :/

How to I convince her to stay on it? Just simple logic other then "She's getting dandruff." Lol :)

In all honesty my dogs don't get sick whatsoever from getting something different from one night to another. I even doubt it was a price. TOTW is still "expensive" food I guess you put it that way.

The main reason she said was that the liver smelt too bad. -.-

Dude you can't keep changing a dogs food like this! you are going to have to slowly change to kibble and slowly change to home made diet! This could be a reason she is having issues!

Cooked meat is not NEARLY as good for a dog compared to kibble and raw meat! it takes out all the nutrients that a dog needs!

I would suggest changing to Wellness CORE, Blue Buffalo Wilderness, or Solid Gold, these are all great foods...

If the dandruff is bothering your try getting a new shampoo, it could be the shampoo you are using making this happen. It could also be an allergic reaction to the new food, so switching to a different kibble would be a wise thing to do...

Some other things you could do is add a raw egg to your dogs food every now and then and give her fish oil pills or squirt it on her food, and is she is not interested in her food I suggest real beef/turkey/chicken broth without salt or plain yogurt and mixing it with her kibble...

Also feeding a home made diet is a pain in the butt and if you mom is making this food for them I don't blame her for wanting the dogs off of it, if she is doing all the work why even have a dog? maybe you should take some of the responsibility, but if you are doing the work she should have no reason to want them off a home made diet...

Take my advice, either switch to another kibble until you find one that doesn't cause an allergic reaction or offer to prepare the dogs home made diet if you are not already doing so... Kibble will be healthier since cooking meat takes out all the nutrients a dog requires...

ADD: One thing I forgot to mention is that your mom is most likely paying for the ingredients and home made diets cost way more than kibble, since you don't live on your own or pay bills I don't expect you to understand the stress of working and paying bills..

I have the exact same problem! My poor dog was bordering on being FAT because my mom insisted on feeding him, too. Finally, I chopped up some carrots and green beans (right from the fridge or the can) and put them on a little plate at my mom's table and told her she could feed him only those things! It seems to work. The dog likes the veggies, my mom gets pleasure from feeding him, and he still eats his dog food! Oh, and he's lost some weight, too!

Are you paying for the ingredients or is your mom? If your mom is she might be tired of spending more money on dog food than she thinks is necessary. If you are paying than it should be up to you. If you were the one cooking did you make sure to keep the kitchen clean after? Bring these points up with your mom, along with the changes in your dog. Maybe take her to the vet and see what they're opinion is. Good luck

If you calculate the amount of money you spend on raw (or boiled) diet, it really is about the same as a bag of kibble.

AND the amount of cash you're going to spend on taking your dog to the vet when he gets sick from the sudden change in diet, or the inability to handle any change at all, will add up REALLY fast.

I would assume she's more concerned that you and your family are eating turkey, chicken and beef than about your dog. Meat and poultry is expensive. Find a good quality dry dog food and use that. Btw, a bottle of shampoo is cheaper than what you're feeding them and your mom is looking for inexpensive ways to keep your dog healthy, without sacrificing her family's nutritional needs.

Maybe your mom thinks this is costing too much to make homemade food. Tell her to pay attention to all of the stuff that is happening and maybe she will notice how much different your dog has been.
