that size will probably take only 10-15 minutes for the actual tattooing, but most shops charge by the hour (set-up & break-down time), so be prepared to pay for the full hour. when getting the tattoo it will feel like a cat is scratching very sunburned skin over and over again. the best feeling is when the artist wipes down the tattoo once finished. the following day it will be sore, a little swollen, and feel like a bad sunburn.
healing can be as quick as 3-4 days or as long as two weeks depending how detailed it is. ask the artist for advice & instructions (in writing) on how to care for a tattoo.
here's what i do: remove bandage after 3-4 hours. clean tattoo and surrounding area gently with soapy water and rinse well. apply witch hazel ointment then burt's bees resQ ointment. wear old clothes to absorb seepage over next 12-18 hours. clean again with soapy water and rinse well. apply more resQ ointment. every 12 hours, clean & apply more ointment. i do this for 3-4 days. the tattoo does scab over slightly on the 2-3 days and start peeling. do NOT scratch or pick at the scab. you will only take out parts of the ink or cause scarring. after 3-4 days of the resQ, i switch to regular moisturizing lotion. it may take up to 10-14 days for the peeling to completely clear.
i have 20+ tattoos
