How many chromosomes will each cell contain?

A 46 chromosome cell goes through the cell cycle and mitosis. How many cells will be produced? How many chromosomes will each cell contain?

    Each daughter cell will contain the same number of chromosomes as the parent cell i.e. 46.

    Assuming the cell is already a diploid cell and has all its chromosomes, nothing changes if it goes through those processes. The Cell Cycle is just the cycle the cell goes through in preparation for divisions, while Mitosis is the process by which cells replicate. In Mitosis, the chromosomes are duplicated and the resulting chromosomes are like the parent cell. If it was Meiosis, the resulting cells would be haploid, having half the number of chromosomes(23) and would be referred to as gametes.

    At the end of this there will be 2 cells and each cell will contain 46 chromosomes.

    Although technically, only 1 cell is actually produced. There are subtle differences between the original 'parent' and produced 'daughter' cell. When the original cell goes through the cell cycle, its original 46 chromosomes are duplicated into what are called sister chromatids. When you think of a chromosome, you tend to think of the 'X' shape. That X is actually a pair of sister chromatids (each side of the X is a copy of the original chromosome). As the cell prepares to divide, the X is pulled apart and each resultant cell will have one copy of each of the original 46 chromosomes.

    Mitosis results in two almost identical cells, so a 46 chromosome cell will divide into two daughter cells with 46 chromosomes.

    after mitosis 2 cells would be produced and each would contain 46 chromosomes...that in the parent cell
