can some 1 pls explain off side rules to me.....bear in mind im a girl that doesn support football?

It's all about when the ball is kicked.

At the exact moment when it is kicked the team mate who receives the ball has to have a defender between himself and the goal.

Imagine freeze-framing a replay at the exact time when the ball is kicked and draw a line across the field where the player is that receives the ball, he has to have a defender closer to goal than he is, even if it is only 1cm that is enough.

The umpire/referee will call offside if the ball is passed to a player on the attacking team that is in between the last player on the defending team and the defending teams goalie ( assuming we are talking about soccer )
