The worst are Out of Africa, Dances With Wolves, and The English Patient. Ugh.

The Color Purple, Goodfellas and Fargo all got shafted.

The best: The Godfather, Silence of the Lambs and One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest.

Saving Private Ryan losing to Shakespeare in Love is also a travesty.

    I know they're predictable, but there's a reason...

    Gone With the Wind

    The Godfather

The Greatest Show on Earth--mediocre. even the director (demille) was shocked when it won.

Kramer vs. Kramer--this beat Apocalypse Now? seriously?

The Apartment--it won because of the shock value of showing the "other woman's" suicide attempt. I give it an A for guts, but now that the shock has worn off, it's not that memorable
