If so, why?

About the new zodiacs:
This is not new. It is Sidereal Astrology. Astronomers use the Sidereal zodiac, and Eastern cultures use it also.
Western astrology uses the Tropical zodiac. Your OLD sign (which really isn't) is your Western sign. These NEW signs (which have been around for several thousand years) are the Sidereal signs. Either is accurate and can be used. It is your choice on how you wish to label yourself.
Astrologers have known about all this for years. It is nothing new.
Here is your Western zodiac: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_astrology
Here is your Sidereal zodiac: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_astrology
If you want to stay the same sign, follow Western Astrology.
If you want to follow the "new" sign (which isn't but has been around for 100s of years) follow Vedic or Sidereal Astrology.
Nothing has changed except some astronomer wanted to get his name in the media and be famous for something that everyone who studies astrology already knew. Astrologers have been familiar with this concept for years

As a professionally-certified astrologer ... who fully understands BOTH the Tropical zodiac system that Western astrologers use ... AND the Sidereal zodiac system that astronomers and Vedic (India) astrology uses ...
There IS no change in the system that Western astrology uses. Which zodiac system do YOU use? If you don't know, then unless you live in India, you are following the Western astrology. No change.
And those who think that 2009 before/after makes a difference are clue-less (apologies to them, but they are misleading you).
There really isn't any change in the other system either (the Indian system), because they have been updating their zodiac all along (a Tropical/Western Aries is usually a Sidereal/Vedic Pisces, and has been such for at about 2000 years)... guess it's only the astronomers who are behind and need to make changes. Why? Google "precession of the equinoxes" if you want to understand the astronomy of the Sidereal system. Tropical uses a different sytem, however.

Astrology has never been about the Stars. Its about the position of the planets, moons and sun in the sky viewed from earth when you were born. When the system was made by the babylonians 2000 odd years ago, they used the stars as a reference to map out where abouts in the sky the sun, planets and moon would be. The constellations were thus used purely for naming purposes and actually have no bearing on the sign itself. The fact that the actual times these constellations appears during the year does not matter. The planets and moon and most certainly the sun have not moved (significantly at least) to actually change how astrology works

Okay, do not say there is a new horoscope according to ASTROLOGERS because those are not the people claiming it. In fact Astrologers are against it. It was an ASTRONOMER who said this stuff who doesn't know anything about Astrology. Second of all THERE IS NO NEW HOROSCOPE!!!!!!
There are two types of Astrology. Tropical and Sidereal. The man on the news was ignorant because he was unaware at what type of Astrology Americans were using at the time. We in America use WESTERN (also known as TROPICAL) Astrology, which is not based on constellations at all. It is based on the cycle of the Equinoxes....or in other words based on the Four seasons, our climate in the West. That's why it is called Western Astrology. Do some research. In Tropical Astrology we don't use STAR signs, we use SUN signs. We determine the distance of the sun within the seasons. (We also have moon signs, mercury signs, etc).
Sidereal uses STAR signs, which is needs the exact rotation of the earth. I prefer Tropical, because I feel our climate influences our personality more than some stars in the heavens.
The man in the news is ignorant because he was basing his find on EASTERN Astrology which deals with constellations or in other words the stars. That is called SIDEREAL ASTROLOGY and we in America and WESTERN Europe do not USE that type of Astrology. Therefore he is misinformed and misinformed the public as well. There is no new Zodiac. There are just two different types. In fact there are many different types...Chinese, Arabic, Indian, etc.
This is why Astrologers are criticizing him because he is a scientist who has no knowledge about Astrology.

Here is the list of Top Ten best daily horoscopes sites on Internet. All of these sites are updated every day.
The horoscope serves as a stylized map of the heavens over a specific location at a particular moment in time. The positions of the actual planets (including Sun and Moon) are placed in the chart, along with those of purely calculated factors such as the lunar nodes, the house cusps including the midheaven and the ascendant, zodiac signs, fixed stars and the lots.
Most people take horoscopes for good and funny way to start working day.

No, but they will change from 2011.
According to astrologial principles, the Sun travels from the constellation Scorpius and goes directly into the sign of Sagittarius, but due to the constant motion of the cosmos, the Sun enters, for a few days of the year, the star constellation 'Ophiuchus' before entering Sagittarius from Scorpius, thus creating astrologically the birth of a thirteenth sign of the Zodiac, which is named as Ophiuchus the Serpent Holder.
The constellation of Ophiuchus is the only sign of the Zodiac which is linked to a real man. This man lived in ancient Egypt around the 27th century BC, and his name was Imhotep. The attributes of Imhotep can also be found in the Biblical Hebrew man Joseph, son of Jacob.. Imhotep is credited with many accomplishments including the knowledge and use of medicine. It is said of Imhotep that he brought the art of healing to mankind. The symbol of a serpent, which is still widely used today to represent the medical profession, was used to represent Imhotep. Imhotep was also known as 'Aesclepius' to the ancient Greeks

Ophiuchus in the Planetary Zodiac:
The planet Pluto was found in Ophiuchus until the end of 2003, after which it passed into Serpens Cauda, the Serpent's Tail. The Centaur object, the minor planetoid Chiron, was visible against the stars of Ophiuchus until November 2001, after which it passed over the border into Sagittarius. Venus and Mercury can be found in Ophiuchus for a time each year.
