Western Actor Poll: Clint Eastwood or John Wayne, and why?

For me personally, it will always be Clint Eastwood. A fave scene of mine is the hilarious faceoff between him and Lee Van Cleef, in "A Few Dollars More": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jyij8PMvr8Y

Clint Eastwood was for more "real world" than John Wayne. Clint Eastwood protrayed characters and reacted to situations that were much more true to the human condition than Wayne. John Wayne rarely portrayed characters with believable human foibles. True Grit was the closest Wayne came to being truly realistic, but it was done in a comical way. Wayne would never show a character he felt was demeaning to his ego and his image as the "all American hero" My favorite

Eastwood western in " High Plains Drifter".

Clint Eastwood. John Wayne had some rather extreme political views.

John Wayne for me.He walked the walk and talked the talk.Eastwood's films were very good and mixed comedy and drama and were far more varied but he wasn't the Duke only an Earl."The Searchers" with Wayne was one of the best westerns ever in my opinion

Oh yeah, the spaghetti western. Clint is a more polished actor than the, Duke. Bridges of, Madison, county.

Wayne was the tough guy at the time when you needed one. Both are great anyway you slice it.

Clint by a wide margin. He was an actor. Wayne was more of a celeb.
