The United States and South Korea took up position in the tense Yellow Sea yesterday for planned four days military exercises in a show of force designed to deter a further escalation of hostilities with North Korea.

As tensions escalated across the region, with North Korea threatening another "merciless" attack for response. China, North Korea's closest ally, jumped into the fray and called for an emergency meeting among regional powers involved in the talks among six countries, to find a way to resolve the tension and restore peace on Korean peninsula.
