Is it true that many country singers have claimed to write their own songs, but they were ghost-written?

Ie, the singer bought the song from the songwriter, and therefore they received song writing credit. Who is known to have done this?

that is known to happen in all genre's

sometimes producers demand that their name be put on a song, even though they have no part in writing it

it's not fair, but sometimes that what new artists have to do to get signed

it'd not as common with singers

Throughout the history of music publishing, there have been unscrupulous business men who would buy your song for a 'song' and then credit the songwriting to one of the 'names' in their control, just to guarantee sales and huge profits.
