Have you read your manual yet? It will include instructions on charging, as well as a wealth of other useful information.

What you call a USB charger may simply be the transfer cord. Most camera batteries need to be charged via a mains-powered charger, not via USB.

With the charger cable UNPLUGGED from the wall, remove the battery from the camera and put it back in the camera again. Make sure the battery is installed correctly and the battery door is firmly closed. Then try charging it.

Are you saying the camera is only a week old? If so and you still can't get the battery to charge, consider returning it for an exchange of the camera or the battery. You might have a bad battery.

Sometimes when there is moisture in the room when the temperature

is too cold from where you picked up the lying camera. Then the

camera won't turn on as a safety feature. Because there might be

moisture inside, when turned on might damage the circuitry of the

    camera making it useless.

So first make sure the battery is inserted inside, with its terminals

matching to that of camera's. Then plug in the cord to the power

source. Make sure the wall you have plugged is working and also

check the camera's USB charger for any faults like cuts or damages.
