J.A. Happ did play last year but only compiled 16 starts. When pitching for the Phillies J.A. Happ came down with a strained flexor pronator tendon in his left arm. After rehab, J.A. Happ was making his rehab starts down in the minors for Clearwater, Reading, and Lehigh Valley. After having disappointing outings in all three levels in the organization. Happ was then called up to the Phillies to make his start coming back after his injury. Happ then went 5 innings giving up 6 hits and allowing no runs against the Astros. On June 29th, J.A. Happ was traded along with prospects Jonathon Villar, and Anthony Gose in exchange for ace Roy Oswalt and 11 million dollars. After being traded to the Astros J.A. Happ was successful ending the season with a 5 and 4 record compiling a 3.75 ERA and throwing one complete game shutout.

He made 16 starts last year with Philadelphia and Houston. He was part of the Roy Oswalt trade.
