Slang. A woman regarded as vacuous or as having an exaggerated interest in her sexual appeal.

Slang. A vacuous person: "a male bimbo ... who even has to be tutored ... in the clichés that comprise the basic interview" (George F. Will).

Bimbo is a term that in popular English language usage describes a woman who is physically attractive but is perceived to have a low intelligence or poor education. The term can also be used to describe a woman who acts in a sexually promiscuous manner. The term itself is not explicitly negative, but can be used as a derogative insult towards a woman.

Use of this term began in the United States as early as 1919, where it was used as a slang term for an unintelligent or brutish male[1]. Its first inclusion in an official dictionary for its female meaning was in 1929, where the definition was given simply as "a woman"[2].

The term Bimbo is often associated with, but is separate from, the stereotypes of "Dumb Blonde" and "Valley Girl" or the New Zealand "Shore Girl".

From the italian, derived from the word "bambino," a young male child.

Yes, the word was first used for males, lol.

    Word Origin & History

    bimbo

1919, "fellow, chap," from It. variant of bambino "baby;" first attested in Italian-accented theater dialogue. Originally especially "stupid, inconsequential man, contemptible person;" by 1920 the sense of "floozie" had developed (popularized by "Variety" staffer Jack Conway, d.1928). Resurrection during 1980s U.S. political sex scandals led to derivatives including dim. bimbette (1990) and male form himbo (1988).
