3 months postpartum - breastfeeding & period?

I'm 3 months postpartum and I'm exclusively breastfeeding. However, today I had some light bleeding when I wiped and even saw some on my pad. Am I getting my period or is this sporadic bleeding usual?

I got mine 3 months postpartum also. It just ended actually. It does happen rarely, my mom and my sister both had their periods regularly while exclusively breasfeeding, while my other sister it took almost a year.

Although rare I was one of the unlucky breastfeeding women with 2 kids who got my first period after delivery at 3 months with my first son and 2 months after my 2nd child.

I read up on it because I had friends who lasted almost a year without a period. It isn't common but obviously does happen and nothing you can do about it but ***** and complain like I did : ).

At least I knew I wasn't pregnant if I got my period.

  • It is possible to be getting your period back already, I think it varies from woman to woman. I first got mine back at 9 months postpartum.
