can you really take 1,000 mg of vitamin c every hour when u are sick?

Potentially you could choose to do this. Vitamin c is a water soluble vitamin so that means your body will absorb what it needs then excrete the excess in your urine so it won't hurt you. On the other hand it won't help you either. Contrary to the common belief vitamin c does not help people get over colds faster. It has properties that help prevent colds from occurring but once you have one you have it. Most colds just have to run their course.Source(s): Nutritional Sciences Major at the University of Wisconsin Madison

You wouldn't be getting sick. You would just get diarrhea. Yes, holistic practitioners suggest you take 1 gm (1000 mg) every hour or two until you get diarrhea. Count how many you took and subtract one and that is how much Vitamin C you should get in one day. You will hear from naysayers, but smoking and stress and alcohol and not eating right and various other things deplete your system of Vitamin C and everyone is different, so this is one way to figure it out. And, if you get a cold or virus, take 1 or 2 grams more a day during that time, then cut back when you start getting well.

Oh yes - give it a try. You just pee out vitamin C if your body doesn't use it - but if it needs it, then it might really help. I've taken 20,000 mgs all at the same time just to see what would happen.... nothing happened.
They say if you take too much vitamin C you'll get a little diarrhea, but that was not my experience.
The alternative medicine guys say to take vitamin C until you get diarrhea, and then that will show you how much you can take.... So one big pill every hour is not that much of a dose.
Hope it helps.

You will probably turn orange, and you may experience constipation but all will be alright for that illness will be kicked out so quick you wont even have time to call-in sick for work.
I don't know who told you that but...it's bologna. Vitamin C will simply boost your little immune system and then the excess will be kindly escorted out to the good old toilet. Your body will use what it needs and disregard the extra. So if you would like to take 1000 mg every hour, go for it! But it wont do anything but waste your money and effort. Taking one 1000mg pill for the day is probably a better option.
