Here's in my opinion why we need to legalize controlled substances, the costs of not legalizing it. Billions of tax dollars every year are spent to fight drug trafficking, prosecute drug dealers, incarcerate drug dealers, and advertise against drugs.
Marijuana is often considered a "gateway" drug. Meaning users start with pot and go on to more intense drugs. Keep in mind, pot is what largely funds most drug dealers and allows them to pay for more intense and dangerous drugs. If we legalize pot, then the price of those other drugs will rise. High school students won't likely be willing to pay a large amount of money for an illegal drug when they can easily obtain an effective and affordable legal drug. For users it will mean less frequent use. Most people who deal in high school only deal pot and maybe lsd, mushrooms, and coke. It will clean up many schools and make those other drugs less obtainable.
Now there is another option. We are a nation of contradictions, drugs are illegal yet our pop culture often idolizes people who use these substances. If we have some congruence and consistently portray drugs as bad, then our addiction will subside a small portion. Another issue is drugs and sex is all the youth has left. If we ride BMX we get tickets for building jumps. If we ride dirt bikes then we get tickets for noise. ETC. All of our reasonable interests are illegal. If you cage everyone they get bored, when they get bored they look in the wrong places for entertainment.
Life, alot my freinds sell and use drugs. If we didn't keep getting arrested for riding dirt bikes and BMX we would have never done what we did. STOP PROSECUTING THE YOUTH, QUIT FOR BITCHING AND LET US LIVE! YOU DID DUMB SHIT WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG LET US DO THE SAME.
