I know what Adobe Illustrator is but I wondered if someone could some up its actually features and functions so i can understand betttter what it actually does and how

Since illustrator is a vector program it allows you to make scaleable grafics. You no longer have to worry about " the pixely-look" when sizing up for a poster or sizing down for a logo or for internet.
One of the best features is the mesh tool which allows you to make photorealistic vector work.
another is the symbol tool- it allows you to make a Symbol your drawn characters or elements from which child objects can be made (for example you want to make an army of identical comic soldiers). Making symbols of your figures keeps file size down tremendously.
Illustrator has a lot of other great tools useful for Textile grafics (patterns and allovers), Comic Illustrators and more
