What if in America, we created a National Health Insurance that covers ONLY health emergencies?

It would be payed for by a 3% sales tax, that would be regressive and the lower/middle class would proportionally pay more, but the lower/middle class would also benefit from it most. Then, it leaves it to the responsibility of all those who are over 18 to to get more nonessential healthcare coverage by buying a health insurance policy.

The problem is that emergencies are EXPENSIVE. Many problems could be handled much more cheaply and easily if they weren't allowed to become emergencies in the first place.

Anyone today can go to an ER and get care, to a certain level, regardless of their ability to pay. This is one reason health care is so expensive today. Hospitals know they must treat people without insurance, and they add the cost to the bills of those who -do- have insurance. That's why a Tylenol in the hospital costs $25. If we provided people with 'well care', periodic exams, pre-natal care (especially), etc., there wouldn't be nearly as many emergencies, and we could save a lot of money. Canada, for instance, spends about half what we do for health care, and they get care as good as we get.

maximum international places perform a customary wellbeing care gadget and a loose marketplace gadget. case in point each man or woman is roofed by customary Healthcare in Britain, in spite of the indisputable fact so that you are able to nonetheless connect inner most healthcare and there are inner most hospitals. the own sector also tenders for authorities wellbeing contracts and works with the (customary) nationwide wellbeing service, setting up self sufficient Sector treatment Centres (ISTC's) to finish operations and coverings on behalf of the universal public sector or contained in the administration of NHS Hospitals and centers. the hot initiatives contained in the NHS include more desirable determination jointly with using wellbeing vouchers which will nicely be used at any clinical institution (public or inner most). maximum GP (family individuals healthcare professional) Practices are also privately run yet supported by the nationwide gadget. Likewise maximum Opticians, Dentists and Care houses are literally operated by the own sector. maximum healthcare gadget are neither in consumer-friendly words loose marketplace or completely nationalised, yet are a mixture of the universal public and private. certainly some inner most clinical institution vendors jointly with the Nuffield crew and BUPA are non-income making businesses, and the voluntary sector is a more desirable major service.

nice try, but it wouldn't work

btw all sales tax is regressive even though at first look people assume it is proportional, so the fact that you added that in there would throw some people off but not me

the government will already cover emergencies, hospitals can't turn people down

although cancer is horrible it is not an emergency since it is a relatively slow killer, one visit won't fix it
